Scope
We invite submissions to the Workshop on Geospatial Ontologies, to be held in conjunction with the International Conference on Formal Ontologies in Information Systems (FOIS 2023) that will take place in Sherbrooke, Quebec (Canada) from July 17 to 20, 2023 (in-person). The workshop is motivated by a tremendous growth in the amount of geospatial and other spatial information published as GIS data, geospatial linked data, or other semantically enriched data. This opens opportunities to re-evaluate the current ecosystem of geospatial types and relations in ontologies, vocabularies and data schemas, ranging from specialized geospatial data standards, such as OGC’s Simple Features or Geosparql, to domain specific ontologies or knowledge graphs with a heavy spatial component, such as for the geosciences, transportation and planning, environmental sciences, architecture, or manufactured products, to general spatial components of top-level ontologies. This one-day workshop will review the current state and identify priorities for the next generation of geospatial ontologies, by exploring the needs of current and potential users, applications, and standards. It will include an expert panel in addition to accepted submissions, and will balance presentations with ample discussions.

Submissions
All interested researchers and practitioners are encouraged to submit either an abstract (250-500 words) or a paper (5-14 pages, CEUR template) via Easychair. Accepted papers will be published as part of the FOIS Workshop CEUR proceedings.
All attendees must register for the workshop, including authors of abstracts or papers.
